Menopause:
Along with many life changes, menopause poses some unique challenges for many women.  Some
women feel out of control, irritable or just an overall sense that something is not right.  Many women suffer
in silence feeling nothing can be done.  Fortunately, there is help and natural treatment options can
provide substantial relief from menopausal symptoms.

Natural treatment of menopause primarily consists of hormone balancing herbs and/or use of bioidentical
(natural) hormones.  Additionally we may incorporate dietary and lifestyle changes that can further assist
your body during this transitional phase.

Common symptoms of menopause/perimenopause include:
  • Hot Flashes
  • Mood swings
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Anxiety
  • Changes in Memory
  • Decreased Libido
  • Vaginal dryness/irritation
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Irregular bleeding
  • Change in menstrual cycle regularity
  • Joint pain
  • Insomnia/disturbed sleep

Do I need to test my hormones before being treated?
If you are seeking treatment using any form of hormones, it is best to check your hormone levels both
before and during treatment.  Having these values helps up determine a starting dose and allows us to
follow your response to the treatment.  Lab values are only part of the picture, so taking a detailed history
and symptom picture are critical for being able to offer the best care.
For women who are not being treated with hormones, we will often treat based on symptoms, and forgo
testing.  There are cases however where we might want to check hormone levels even if we are not
prescribing hormone therapy as to guide our treatment approach.  Each case depends on factors that are
unique to our individual patient.
